Even though its winter on the Sunshine Coast there are many ways to enjoy the Gibsons area, by land or sea!
Gibsons is on the official BC Ale Trail, offering award winning craft beer from Persephone Craft Brewery named in honour of Nick’s boat in the Beachcomber’s TV series. You can also check out the Persephone boat, right on the corner in Gibsons Landing, just a block from the new George Gibsons Marine Residences. Across from the future George condominium homes on Gower Point Road, is the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives, featuring Beachcomber’s memorabilia as well as indigineous and fascinating Gibsons heritage displays. At this time of year, Gibsons Marina is bright with thousands of seasonal lights, and the Landing merchants have decorated the main street to suit.
From Thursday through Sundays, you can treat yourself to the best BBQ around at Smoke on the Water BBQ shack, down on the Gibsons Public dock, or get your fill of Oysters at the Smitty’s Oyster Bar. Gibsons newest restaurant addition, Nova, offers delish’ farm to table daily selections. Leo’s Mediterranean Tapas restaurant is a Gibsons institution as is the landmark Molly’s Reach restaurant. Just a few doors down is Sunshine Kayaking, offering boat tours and kayak rentals. On a sunny winter day you may even see the resident paddling canoe teams out in the harbour as well as some keen ocean kayakers. Fashion boutiques and specialty stores are plenty in Gibsons Landing along with art galleries and the unique Sunshine Coast Olive Oil Company.
If snow is your preference, Dakota Ridge offers a wonderland of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails in winter. Alpha Adventures in Wilson Creek, rents equipment and provides guides. On mild winter days, you may even be able to grab a game of golf at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club in Roberts Creek.
